Albufeira

The original tourist centre of the Algarve, very busy in the summer with many bars, restaurants and nightclubs in the new part of town known as The Strip.  The character of the old town has been retained with cobbled streets, small shops, bars and restaurants.

Sleepy old unspoilt market town.  Visit the church and see the unusual chapel which has walls lined with the skulls of earthquake victims who died many centuries ago.

Considered to be the most beautiful village of the Algarve with flower decorated courtyards and balconies and a parish church of about 500 years.

Alvor

A pretty seaside fishing town with cobbled streets leading down to a river.  You will find plenty of space on the long sandy beach.  The main centre is pedestrianised and has plenty of bars and restaurants which get quite lively at night.

Cape St. Vincent

Worth a visit so that you can say that you have been to the most South-Westerly point of Europe.  There is a lighthouse where you can look out across the sea, or you can take a walk along the stunning cliffs overlooking the waves crashing against the rocks.  From here, you can easily continue your journey to the historical town of Sagres.

Attractive old town with a fort, castle, medieval walls and several museums. Good for shopping with traffic free cobbled streets and plenty of restaurants with outside seating.

A town set in the hills away from the coast.  Famed for it's large market which sells fruit, vegetables and many local handicrafts.

Monchique

A pleasant drive through pine and eucalyptus forests. Stop on the way at Caldas de Monchique, a small spa town with attractive traditional architecture, local handicrafts and an opportunity to try traditional dishes and sample the spring water. Foia is at the summit with superb views on a clear day and there are several good restaurants on the way up.  Chicken Piri-Piri (spicy grilled chicken) is a tasty speciality dish of the Algarve, that must be tried whilst here.

A busy traditional Portuguese city with good shops, vegetable and fish markets.  Take a pleasant walk by the harbour along the River Arade which leads out to sea.  There are boat trips on offer, which take you along the river through the beautiful countryside to the town of Silves and back.  There are many traditional sardine restaurants - a must for fish lovers!

Silves

The centre of the Algarve many centuries ago.  This town is steeped in Moorish tradition.  Visit the mediaval fort alongside the cathedral.  Wander through cobbled lanes and enjoy refreshment in one of the many cafes and restaurants. 

Tavira

An unspoilt Portugese town, dating back to Roman times. It has many interesting churches and a castle with good views over the town. The main feature is the river that runs through the middle of the town.  Take the inland route through Loule and Sao Bras, a scenic country drive.
